When I have a memorable experience with a brand, my first instinct is to seek them out on social media, and to spread the word to my followers. That’s the beauty of social media – it’s a convenient and effective way for consumers to spread the love when they’ve had a great experience with a product or service. Word-of-mouth advertising on steroids.
But when I can’t find a Twitter handle, Facebook page, or Instagram account for a business that I’d love to promote, I’m left feeling frustrated, and my enthusiasm for their brand quickly dwindles.
More and more businesses are realizing the benefits of social media and are creating social media accounts for their brand, which is fantastic. But with many brands, actually finding those social media accounts is a game of hide and seek.
What can you do to make your social media accounts easier to find for your consumers?
When setting up your social media accounts, try your best to match your handle to your business name. For example, The Keg Steakhouse & Bar has the Twitter handle @TheKeg, with the display name “Keg Steakhouse + Bar”, so if I’ve enjoyed a great meal at their restaurant, their account is quick and easy to find, and compliments are aplenty.
When adding social sharing buttons to your company’s home page, be sure to add the buttons to the top of the page – above the fold (within the portion of your webpage that can be seen before scrolling). When I visit a company’s website, I don’t want to have to go on a scavenger hunt, clicking and scrolling through page after page to find out if they have a Twitter account.
Use the proper social media icons. Be sure to use the appropriate icons for each social media account so that it’s quick and easy for your readers to spot them on your site – and please, avoid using text links! Including a simple Twitter bird, or Facebook “F” encourages readers to quickly click through and follow your accounts.
Making it easy for your consumers to find your social media accounts on your website is a must if you want to reap the benefits of social media marketing.
